Remote Operated Home Appliances Circuit

Suitable for operating, Lamps, Fan, Radio etc.., Small n easy unit

Here is the circuit diagram of Remote Operated Home Appliances or Remote controlled Home appliances. Connect this circuit to any of your home appliances (lamp, fan, radio, etc) to make the appliance turn on/off from a TV, VCD, VCR, Air Conditioner or DVD remote control. The circuit can be activated from up to 10 meters. It is very easy to build and can be assembled on a veroboard or a general-purpose PCB.

Circuit diagram:

Parts:

R1 = 220K
R2 = 330R
R3 = 1K
R4 = 330R
R5 = 47R
C1 = 100uF-16V
C2 = 100nF-63V
C3 = 470uF-16V
D1 = 1N4007
D2 = Red LED
D3 = Green LED
Q1 = BC558
Q2 = BC548
IR = TSOP1738
IC1 = CD4017
RL1 = Relay 5V DC

Circuit Operation:

The 38kHz infrared rays generated by the remote control are received by IR receiver module TSOP1738 of the circuit. Pin 1 of TSOP1738 is connected to ground, pin 2 is connected to the power supply through R5 and the output is taken from pin 3. The output signal is amplified by Q1. The amplified signal is fed to clock pin 14 of decade counter IC CD4017 (IC1). Pin 8 of IC1 is grounded, pin 16 is connected to vcc and pin 3 is connected to D2 (Red LED), which glows to indicate that the appliance is ‘off.’

The output of IC1 is taken from its pin 2. D3 connected to pin 2 is used to indicate the ‘on’ state of the appliance. Q2 connected to pin 2 of IC1 drives relay RL1.
D1 acts as a freewheeling diode. The appliance to be controlled is connected between the pole of the relay and neutral terminal of mains. It gets connected to live terminal of AC mains via normally opened (N/O) contact when the relay energizes. If you want to operate a DC 12 volt relay then use a regulated DC 12 volt power supply for DC 12 volt Relay and remember that the circuit voltage not be exceeded more than DC 5 volts.

Could this circuit be amended to turn on/off a small water feature mains pump?

Izhar Fareed [Reply]

yes u can but you have to change relay. (relay power handling must be same as water pump)

plz clearly mansion from where we can connect the device which we want to protect.

Means there should be some output & it should be clearly shown so that the wires of the device could be connect.

plz help
regards,
rajesh

@Raj
You can connect your device on relay terminals, I mean to say that Normal Close, Normal Open and Common.

What kind of device do you want to operate. Please let me know, I will try to help you out.

Thank you

Which kind of remote to be used?

Izhar Fareed [Reply]

@Sajiv
You can use any kind of remote control to operate this circuit like, Television, VCD Player, DVD Player's remote. I have built this circuit and it is working fine with my air conditioner's remote control.

is this circuit properly work?is 10meter range is possible?

aditya gupta [Reply]

i built dis ckt. but its nt working,, need help... cn ny recievr be used?

aditya gupta [Reply]

Cn i use any other IR reciever?

I hav connectd the ckt, but its nt working. i'll join device after i'll see my relay working....

nw tell me, if its possible 4 u, to show the pic of ur PCB, or ckt u have made... i want to c hw to connect device to relay? plz help..

Izhar Fareed [Reply]

@aditya
I built this project myself on veroboard and its working correctly. I have attached this circuit with the fan of my room. But currently i am unable to provide the picture of this project. So please check your connections and IC. I will suggest you to use China Universal IR receiver that can be found easily in china dvd and vcd players.

i want to setup a 230 v CFL lamp , how can i built built this circuit as working in 230v , pls help me( the circuit need to control by a remote .) please give the circuit ..

winlin [Reply]

Yes "aditya gupta" any ir receiver will work, but pay attention to the pin positions they are not same.

alok [Reply]

please mention what is the function of CD4017

syed [Reply]

sir how to connect this circuit in my home

Gagan [Reply]

hey frnds plz... help me . i wn know dat any ac appliance can b connected through relay like tv, etc irrespective of the current rating???????
do reply guys...

Izhar Fareed [Reply]

@Gagan
Relay contacts must be Mains Rated.

bhagath [Reply]

which pins in relay connect to circuit please mention & how to connect the relay

Izhar Fareed [Reply]

@bhagath
What do you want to connect with relay ?

jaicky [Reply]

The circuit worked perfectly on breadboard.But after soldering on PCB only the green light is ON and the circuit is not switching with infrared.What could be the mistake?

Izhar Fareed [Reply]

@jaicky
Built this circuit as shown in diagram. Please check soldering points and wiring.

sourav [Reply]

This circuit is working properly....Its grate Freed..I think we need to short the pin 1 and 14 of that IC 1738 for clock or trigger the signal state...

Izhar Fareed [Reply]

@sourav
Yeah!. I built this too.

mani [Reply]

plz tell where we connect the appliance which we want to controlled
and how we connect the pins of the relay.

Athul [Reply]

This circuit is working properly...

but the circuit switches on or off after sometime automatically without giving the IR signal.

what could be the possible reason for this ?
please suggest a solution to rectify this situation

i want to cnnect 230 a.c ceiling fan(remote controld). Which type of relay i hav to use? Ratings of relay?

Chetan M.P [Reply]

Sir, I can't find 0.1uF ceramic capacitor so, can I use 0.1uF electrolytic capacitor or should I leave that component.

Chetan M.P [Reply]

Sir, the relay turns on, but doesn't turns off... please assist me..

Kapil C. Raje [Reply]

Sir, how to use remote for controlling more than one home appliances(fan,bulb,etc.)?

pramodh [Reply]

please any one tell me how to connect pins of the relay to home applience,and also how can we connect 230v supply to the circuit

pramodh [Reply]

sir, how can i connect 230v supply to the relay/home appliences and please provide information about relay pins and its connections
